Infant-Toddler Therapy

Infant-toddler therapy refers to the emotional, social, and cognitive well-being of babies and toddlers. It focuses on helping the infant-toddler develop secure attachments, supports their ability to experience and regulate emotions, and supports their foundation for future mental and emotional health.

As a therapist specializing in infant-toddler mental health, I use a relationship-based approach to help parents care for infants, toddlers, and young children. I enable mothers and their partners to understand their children better, understand the needs underneath the often-distressing behaviors, and adjust to parenthood. I aim to enhance caregiver-child relationships and support the child’s healthy social-emotional development.

A positive parent-child relationship lays the foundation for a child’s future success. A secure attachment can help shield children from stress, encourage their developmental progress, support their ability to manage their emotions and foster self-confidence and self-reliance. With this in mind, I recommend parents participate in treatment alongside their children to work collaboratively to understand what’s happening and create family-informed and child-specific solutions for your family’s everyday challenges. I believe in treating the child and the parent-child relationship, not just the child alone.

Common reasons to seek therapy for yourself or your infant-toddler:

  • You had/have a poor relationship with your parents
  • You find yourself constantly yelling at your children
  • You and your child rarely have joyful and fun moments together
  • Your child has experienced a scary or traumatic experience
  • Your child has a hard time with change or transitions
  • Your child is constantly fussy, dysregulated, easily over-stimulated, and hard to soothe
  • Your child is experiencing an increase in anger outbursts, aggression towards peers/siblings
  • Your child often appears nervous or worried or struggles to separate
  • Your child does not seek out comfort or resists your attempts at comforting
