What do you mean by parent participation?
- I primarily provide dyadic treatment for children under the age of 5. Dyadic therapy involves treatment that is delivered to the infant-toddler and parent simultaneously. Research has shown that dyadic approaches are most effective in treating social-emotional and behavioral problems in young children. I consider parents or caregivers to be my co-therapist in session. My goal is to support the child’s social-emotional development, enhance the parent-child relationship, and provide support and guidance to the parent(s) in real-time as they navigate the challenges of early parenthood. However, we may occasionally meet without the infant-toddler to assess progress.
- For school-aged children and adolescents, sessions may be both individual and family. Sometimes, I will meet with the child alone, sometimes we will all play together, and other times, I may meet with the parent(s) independently to assess progress, provide developmental information, and develop concrete strategies for use at home.
