Meet Karrie

I am an experienced and passionate Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist specializing in infant mental health and perinatal mental health.

I offer an honest, compassionate, and judgment-free approach to therapy.

I am endorsed as an Infant-Family Early Childhood Mental Health Specialist, Reflective Practice Facilitator, II (IFECMHS-RPF-II). As a therapist specializing in infant mental health, I use a relationship-based approach to help parents with caring for infants, toddlers, and young children. I help mothers, and their partners, both understand their children and adjust to parenthood. My goal is to support the development of positive attachments between infants and toddlers and their caregivers to support healthy social-emotional development.

I’m also certified as a perinatal mental health specialist (PMH-C). As a perinatal mental health therapist, I focus on the emotional well-being of a woman, her partner, and their infant. I focus on issues such as stress, anxiety, and depression, that may arise during pregnancy or in the first year following the birth of a child. I also work with mamas who have experienced difficult births and are struggling to adjust to motherhood and manage day-to-day stress.

I am certified as a Registered Play Therapist™ (RPT™) through the Association for Play Therapy. When working with children in treatment, I use various forms of play to communicate with and help children resolve psychosocial challenges and underlying emotional difficulties.

I am trained in infant massage (CEIM) and certified in several evidence-based practices including Child Parent Psychotherapy (CPP), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Positive Parenting Practice (PPP), and Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT).

In addition to being a therapist, I am a mama of two. I understand firsthand how unbelievably beautiful yet messy, exhausting, demanding, and isolating motherhood can be and the challenges parents, especially mothers, face trying to hold on to their former selves as they transition to becoming a mother.

I’m also an adjunct lecturer in the Psychology Department at California State University, Fullerton. I teach several Abnormal Psychology, Personality Psychology, and Social Psychology courses.
